My mom and I share a love of wine. When she learned about a Louis Jadot tasting at our local wine distributor’s site, she immediately reserved two spots. We barrel tasted 18 wines from their 2017 vintage and had the opportunity to buy whatever we liked on pre-sale, “primeur”. These wines will be out for sale in August 2019. We learned that 2017 has been a great harvest year and that most wines will drink well while young. The harvest was plentiful so prices will hopefully come down for Burgundy wines. This contrasts with 2016 which, due to bad weather, the yields were not so plentiful and the wine became very concentrated therefore needing more aging. 2018 will also be an interesting year, with good ripening and yields. So do expect Louis Jadot cellars to be full of great wine. For us this will mean stable prices and supply for the near future. Yes!
To enter into some detail, Beaune wines are their best value right now. Louis Jadot started there so it is ground zero for them. There are no Grand Crus in Beaune. The whole area is Premier Crus and they are a good value because hillsides are steep and get a lot of sun. In Burgundy this is important because it is a cold climate region. Other villages in Beaune are more expensive and better known like Pommard and Volnay. I would say the surprise of the night was Beaune Aux Cras. It was elegant with a swift aroma of raspberries and spice.
