Mexican Beer Tasting

on

Today we are reminded of Mexico on radio, tv, online. Everywhere we look we see an ad for 5 de mayo. I love Mexico and everything Mexican, so we’ll celebrate their culture and do a blind tasting of Mexican beer. (Of course we are eating guacamole and chips while we do this) 🙂 We are trying 4 lager beers, since pale lagers are the most consumed type of beer all over the world. Budweiser, Tsingtao, Miller, Stella Artois, Heineken, are some examples of lagers. We will try Dos X, Corona and Modelo.

Lager is a type of beer that is fermented at low temperatures and also matures in cold storage. This is the main difference from Ales that ferment in warm temperatures. Lagers can be pale or dark. Pilsner is a type of pale lager. They are originally from Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Their taste is clean, crisp and refreshing. The main ingredients are water, malt and noble hops. Some have more hops than others which imparts the bitter taste. Others, not in Germany, have corn or rice to lighten its body. SALUD
