Bottles to Impress

Top 100 list from winespectator.com chose Lewis Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 from Napa Valley as their #1 pick. This wine is one of my favorites, even though the price tag is high for a new to wine person. It costs about $90 per bottle. What makes this wine great? We can start by saying it has so many aromas it is called complex, in a good way. Plum, blackberries, black currant, together with black licorice that stays on your palate for the longest time. The wine also exhibits a good balance between tannins, alcohol and acidity. These are all characteristics of a great wine: complexity of aromas, balance between components, length of finish and also how the sense of place and varietal’s character is expressed in the wine. So, if you are invited to a friend’s home and he/she offers a glass of Lewis Cab 2013, make sure you take your time to taste it and enjoy its many gifts. Cheers!
